The Chicago Bears have made significant upgrades to several key positions this offseason. However, one position that remains relatively unchanged is running back. Despite speculation that the Bears would target a running back in the draft, the board didn’t fall in their favor.
The Draft Approach
On a recent episode of Bears Film Room, Jeff Hughes of DaBearsBlog explained that the Bears were indeed looking to add a running back. However, they were not going to force a pick simply to fill a need. According to Hughes, the Bears were content with their top two backs currently on the roster at Halas Hall.
D’Andre Swift: A Temporary Solution?
Hughes noted that the Bears, along with new head coach Ben Johnson, view D’Andre Swift as a replaceable piece. Although an upgrade might not happen immediately, Hughes left the door open for a move to be made if the right opportunity arises.
Roschon Johnson: Health and Role Concerns
The Bears have concerns about Roschon Johnson’s durability. Hughes pointed out that the team doesn’t fully trust Johnson to stay healthy, and he isn’t considered a true home-run hitter in the backfield.

The Current State of the Running Back Room
Despite these uncertainties, the Bears still like their running back group. They also added rookie Kyle Monangai, who brings additional depth if he makes the roster. It’s worth remembering where Ben Johnson comes from—Detroit—where he utilized a dynamic duo of former Bear David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Given Johnson’s history, including trading away Swift once before, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bears revisit the position in the coming months.

Nurse silly you are the most pompous ass I have ever came accross
@Tred —
Nothing could make me happier than the entire NFC North being populated top-to-bottom by Super Bowl contenders — and each of the eight annual games being a playoff-quality slugfest.
However, it is also clear to me, the Bears will never rise to that level with a “perpetual rookie” NFL GM — particularly when the competition can call upon: Brad Holmes, Brian Gutekunst and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
Well, who desires to know when I shall be attending the French Open matches? You may vote now.

The above proves I’m actually a miracle worker assisting if not saving those at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder from potential eugenic measures. No charge. ROAR!
@TGena – yeah, give the guy his props. He’s got his club up into the contender range. I wish they weren’t , but you still give the man his respect.
