Kansas State University has really been kind to Chicago lately. After all it may have produced their next great center in Cody Whitehair, a second round pick from 2016. However, there is another name that could be drawing intrigue soon enough. Will the Bears sign D.J. Johnson? Hang on, let’s back up a second. Don’t know who that is? Not surprising since the young man isn’t a football player for that college.
He is in fact a power forward for the K-State basketball team. That’s right. His name was made on the hardcourt, not the gridiron. During his senior year he was a steady presence for them in the paint averaging 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He always saved some of his best performances for big games including two against #3 ranked Kansas and one in the South Region championship tournament against Wake Forest.
With his basketball career drawing to a close though, his future is in question. It would seem the Bears have plans in mind.
