Bears Draft Plans Take A Hit As Ideal Target Reportedly No Longer Available

-

With the 2025 NFL Draft just days away, the Chicago Bears draft board is likely finalized. One name that has reportedly been on their radar is LSU left tackle Will Campbell — a versatile, high-upside player who could anchor their offensive line for years to come.

Campbell’s Appeal to Chicago

Campbell brings a rare combination of size, athleticism, and positional flexibility. While he primarily played left tackle at LSU, some draft analysts believe he can transition smoothly to either guard or left tackle in the NFL. For a Bears team still piecing together a long-term options on the line, Campbell would be a natural fit — especially if he were to fall to them at No. 10 overall.

There has even been some speculation that Chicago could explore a trade-up scenario to secure him, should he begin to slide down the board.

Patriots Reportedly Eyeing Campbell at No. 4

However, recent reports suggest that dream may already be dead. Multiple outlets are now linking the New England Patriots to Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick. If true, it would remove a top option from the Bears wish list well before they’re on the clock.

A trade-up to No. 4 would be extremely costly — particularly for an offensive lineman — and likely too steep for GM Ryan Poles to justify, especially with other needs still on the roster.

Would the Bears Move Up If He Slips?

Should Campbell fall out of the top five — perhaps to picks six, seven, or eight — Chicago might still consider a move up. In that range, the price becomes more manageable, and the value of securing a franchise cornerstone becomes more justifiable. Much would depend on how the draft board unfolds, but it’s a scenario worth watching.

The Bottom Line

If the Patriots do indeed take Will Campbell at No. 4, the Bears will need to pivot. Losing out on a player of his caliber is a setback for their draft board, particularly if he was viewed as a primary target. With several options still likely to be on the board at No. 10, Poles and the front office will need to stay flexible — but it appears one key name is already slipping out of reach.

So suppose it goes Ward, Hunter, Carter, Will Campbell for the top 4. That means that there are 5 picks before the Bears at 1.10. On the board would be Graham, Jeanty, Membou, and Warren, as well as several other players. As long as two teams in that group of 5 choose players not on the list above, one on the list will be there for the Bears. Other players that could go top 10: Sanders, McMillan, Will Johnson, Jalon Walker. So it’s a race – can there be 2 from the second list (and everyone else) before 4 from… Read more »

OT Campbell at #4 is one less variable. Only seven left.

I tend to fall in the camp that Campbell is not the talent that he has become since playing football ended and he has been elevated as this can’t miss prospect that he never was previously. All through the college football season everyone evaluating the prospects spoke about how poor this draft was for O lineman and QB’s. What has changed since playing ended. The hyping of players by their agents to powerful sources in draft evaluations. Campbell may end up being elite but the odds that he’s a middling guard in 3 years are much greater than pro bowl… Read more »
