Chicago Bears fans have been dreaming about Ashton Jeanty for months now. The Boise State running represents the kind of blue-chip talent they need more of on this roster. Yes, he plans a position that is considered of lesser value than others in the 1st round. Still, this draft class isn’t normal compared to others. Premium positions aren’t nearly as stacked as other years. That makes taking good players, regardless of position, the smarter play for teams. Jeanty is one who makes lots of sense.
The problem is most experts keep predicting he doesn’t get past the Las Vegas Raiders at #6. Pete Carroll has a history of grabbing running backs early. He loves to run the football. It’s a natural connection to make. However, Albert Breer of the MMQB isn’t so sure it happens that way. Based on the whispers he’s hearing, it sounds like the Raiders might be leaning more toward the line of scrimmage with their 6th pick. Both their offensive and defensive lines could use help. That might be the move to watch.
Ashton Jeanty getting past the Raiders is music for the Bears.
He won’t go to New York at #7 or Carolina at #8. The former already has two good running backs in place, while the latter is focused on helping their defense. That leaves New Orleans at #9. They’ve been rumored as a possible Ashton Jeanty landing spot. Breer, though, believes the greater likelihood is they do one of two things. Either they take the top quarterback on their board, be it Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, or they grab a defensive end to help replace the aging Cameron Jordan. If Breer is correct, that means Jeanty drops to #10, where he believes the Bears are his floor. In other words, he isn’t getting past them. Such an outcome would be great for the organization as they look to bolster the help around Caleb Williams.
