Are The Rats Abandoning Ship? Ryan Poles Loses Key Assistant

-

If you’ve seen NFL teams change regimes enough times, you learn to recognize the signs that changes might be approaching. A big one is seeing certain assistants within the organization quietly leave for jobs elsewhere. We may have gotten our first warning sign for Ryan Poles with news surfacing that front office member J.J. Cosh is leaving the organization to join Georgia Tech as their executive associate athletic director for player management. At first glance, the move isn’t overly logical.

Cosh joined the organization in 2018 as a scouting assistant. Pole eventually promoted him in 2022 to become a pro scout and manager of football administration. He was clearly on an upward trajectory. Georgia Tech is not a school he’s affiliated with. He went to college at Notre Dame and the United States Naval Academy.

It’s hard not to feel like this is somebody fleeing before the hurricane hits.

Ryan Poles is standing on uncertain ground.

His prized quarterback pick is playing some excellent football. One would think the GM is in great standing with the organization. However, there is a price to pay for hitching your wagon to maybe the worst head coach this organization has produced in the last 40 years. People will say Marc Trestman, but he at least had a .500 season. Matt Eberflus has posted a losing record every year since he took over. His .311 winning percentage is the third-lowest in franchise history and could get even worse in the coming weeks. Sources indicate Ryan Poles was the primary driving force to keep the head coach in place, against the wishes of others in the building. There can be no denying that blunder won’t paint him in a good light once the season ends.

Yeah there’s no way they would fire Poles after this season. They’re going to look to him to find a quality coach now that they have established an NFL caliber offense. He’s done fine in building a solid team. Of course he’s missed on some draft picks and trades. But he’s also nailed many too. Let’s not forget that many of those draft picks were from deals he worked out. The Bears had so few picks to work with and he got them plenty extra. Not to mention that incredible trade that got us a true #1 reciever, along with… Read more »

“Nothing burger”? Maybe Dr. Melhus, if the Chicago Bears won-lost record since GM Ryan Poles took over wasn’t — wait for it — 14-31 (.311). Just remember, Ryan Poles was not a Kevin Warren hire. And, Team President Warren is said to have a significant ego. The team’s record under Warren’s reign is currently 11-17 (.393). If this Bears team were to “lose out” — their 2024 record would end at 4-13; which woulld saddle the unholy collaboration of Poles and Eberflus with a three-year W-L record of: 14-37 (.274509). They would “fall just short” of the Bears all-time record… Read more »

Agree with most posters, this is a nothing burger.

Next week, Erik will discuss how one of the maintenance workers at Halas Hall regularly goes to a bar after work, a clear sign that Ryan Poles is a terrible boss because he drives his workers to drink regularly.

I mean, I get that it must be hard to find enough material to write six articles a day, but perhaps the best solution when you don’t have anything more to say is to stop talking, or in Erik’s case, stop writing.

Cosh looks ugly with terrible hair. I really would not want to look at him every day, if ever. Goodbye, he belongs in Georgia. Then he can fatten up there too. Just my opinion on human rats and other vermin.

WOW!!! I really think Lambert like to create news out of nothing. People move from job to job all the time, he’ll be replaced…..also he was not one of Pols’ hire (you do that often with the players he did not draft.). Stop trying to add more fuel to the Chicago Bears fire right now. The problem will be corrected and hopefully the Bears will be back on track next year. In the meantime, we still have 6 more games to endure through, so stop adding more fuel to the fire, the Bears are doing that just fine on their… Read more »
