Allen Robinson Recalls the Game He Knew These Bears Could Be Special

-

Allen Robinson is a popular topic among Chicago Bears fans. Many are hoping the team does the right thing and gets a contract extension done with the 27-year old. For his part, it’s something he wants as well. Robinson has a big chance to carve out his own legacy in Chicago, especially with all the receiving records being well within reach. However, those goals are secondary to him.

Robinson is more focused on winning football games. During an appearance on The Lefkoe Show, he stated he doesn’t care much about his statistical output provided the team wins. When asked about his thoughts on the team, the receiver showed a clear belief that the Bears should be competitive this year. Why? A team-wide mentality.

“Coming to Chicago, it’s been a different mentality. Just from everything. We’ve won now 20 games over two seasons, which a lot of teams don’t do in general. For us to be able to do that…again with everything that happened last year with injuries…I think our culture is different. I didn’t step into a rebuilding kind of situation.”

Was there a specific game that stood out to him as the first true sign something was different?

“For me I think was game three against the Arizona Cardinals my first year here. Going into the 4th quarter I think we were down 14 and we came back and won that game. It was one of those situations where I don’t think I had ever been, since I had been in the league, I had never been down 14 going into the 4th quarter and came back and won.”

Allen Robinson hasn’t lost his optimism about this team

The truth is Robinson’s account is a little bit romanticized. The Bears fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter of that game. From there they gradually chipped away at the lead until a field goal with 4:31 left in the game put them ahead for good. It was a spirited comeback after a rough start and Robinson played his role with some big catches.

That was the first game the Bears probably should’ve lost but battled back to win. A real momentum builder towards their eventual 12-4 season. So it’s not hard to see why Robinson remains optimistic. The defense is still great. If he and the offense can perform better this coming season, they can finish what they started back in 2018 but going after a Super Bowl.
