On Wednesday afternoon, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy addressed the media. And although we mostly received the normal, cliche answers that we can expect in these pressers, there was one comment that caught my eye. It was regarding the guard competition.
What about Alex Bars?
Heading into the off-season, one of the biggest question marks was at the right guard spot. However, the Bears didn’t spend big money at that position as they opted to take a cheaper route that may or may not provide the stability they are desperately looking for. This leads me to my next question.
Has Nagy already closed the door on Alex Bars?
It’s fair to speculate as Nagy’s comment specifically excluded the 24-year-old. Nonetheless, I highly doubt Bars has been completely written off. When you take a look at his resume, you’ll see that he’s still relatively young and only has 5 NFL games under his belt. So there is still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the second-year player. This will definitely be an interesting storyline to monitor as training camp continues to play out.
