Albert Breer Says A New Team Is Calling About Chicago Bears’ #1 Pick

-

The Chicago Bears have not pulled off any sort of big move so far. Fans are getting anxious, feeling that GM Ryan Poles isn’t proactive enough to try to make his team better. Justin Fields remains on the roster. His list of potential landing spots has drastically dwindled. Not many big-name free agents are left. If Poles wants to make a splash, his best opportunity may now be trading one of his top-10 picks. Many out there still believe the possibility remains that Chicago will pull a last-second swerve by trading the #1 pick to the highest bidder.

Poles won’t reveal anything, so the only thing people have left is speculation. One thing is clear. The demand for that top pick is stupidly high. It is already well-known the Washington Commanders are interested in the spot. Other QB-needy teams have contacted the Bears about it. Albert Breer of the MMQB revealed that another is prepared to join the fray. Uncertain about their situation with Daniel Jones, it appears the New York Giants are hoping to go after one of the top quarterbacks.

That includes all the way to #1, if possible. It comes down to what Poles’ price tag is.

The Chicago Bears’ decision should be clear at the end of March.

They still have pro days and private visits to get through. Evaluations on these quarterbacks are incomplete. Ian Rapoport said this is part of why the Bears didn’t trade Fields. They aren’t yet certain which direction this will go. Until then, they’d like to have a QB option on the roster they trust. Most of these meetings should conclude around the end of this month. It would be shocking if the Bears don’t know what they want to do on April 1st. Current predictions remain the same. Everybody expects Chicago to take a quarterback #1 overall. The favorite for that honor is USC’s Caleb Williams.

There are two ways this changes. Either the quarterbacks fail to make the necessary impression Poles wants, or one of the teams eager to trade up makes an offer the Chicago Bears can’t turn down. As things stand, the former is more likely than the latter. Bears evaluators seem to like the talent of this quarterback crop. They need to determine if any of them have the necessary mental toughness to handle playing in this city. That is why these looming interviews are crucial.
