Alan Williams’ Smart Message To Bears Defense About Packers

-

Unlike most other Chicago Bears coaches, Alan Williams is highly familiar with the Green Bay Packers. From 2012 to 2017, he spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions. So he knows the challenges and pitfalls of taking how good that team has been for granted. The Bears stand to benefit from that experience. Williams spoke to the press ahead of their big Sunday night visit to Lambeau Field.

Everybody knows the situation. Chicago pulled off a massive upset of San Francisco on opening day. The Packers, meanwhile, got thumped 23-7 by the Vikings. Their offense looked disjointed, and the defense had no answers for Justin Jefferson. Some are wondering if the team is coming apart at the seams. Williams absolutely refuses to let that narrative seep into the Bears locker room. He made sure his defense got the message.

Alan Williams knows the Packers well.

During his coaching tenure in Minnesota and Detroit, his team beat them twice in a row only one time. That was in 2017 when Aaron Rodgers missed most of the season with a shoulder injury. Williams knows that Rodgers rarely loses back-to-back games. In fact, he hasn’t done it since 2018. It’s not like he can’t rebound from ugly losses, either. New Orleans demolished Green Bay 38-3 on opening day last season. Rodgers threw four touchdowns the next week and kickstarted a seven-game winning streak.

So yeah. Alan Williams isn’t fooled by any of the knee-jerk reactions in the media. He knows Rodgers and that team will be ready to play. Chicago hasn’t beaten them in four years. They have zero reasons to get cocky about this game. They’ll need to bring the same energy and discipline they did against the 49ers to have a chance.

The good news is the Bears are playing with house money. They needed to steal one of the first two games to give themselves a chance at navigating the early schedule. They’ve already done that. Now comes the fun part. If they can pull off an upset in Green Bay, their national perception could change drastically.
