Adam Schefter Predicts Bears Get “Unbelievable” Offers For #1 Pick

-

The Chicago Bears couldn’t have asked for a better development in the season finale of 2022. Not only did they lose to Minnesota, but the Houston Texans pulled off an unimaginable comeback to reach 3-13-1. That half-game difference from the Bears’ 3-14 handed GM Ryan Poles the #1 overall pick in the 2023 draft. It is the first time this franchise has held it in 76 years. What makes it even better is they don’t need a quarterback. The presence of Justin Fields allows Poles to consider almost any course of action with that pick. Adam Schefter has a pretty good idea what it will be.

The ESPN insider spoke to Waddle & Silvy on ESPN 1000 about how things have unfolded since that fateful Sunday last month. He still can’t believe how badly the Texans botched that last game. As for the Bears, he hasn’t dug deep into his sources yet due to the madness of Super Bowl week and the coaching carousel. However, he made one thing clear. There is a strong belief Poles will have plenty of takers if he does decide to make that #1 pick available.

“I can just tell you right now, that the Bears are going to have the opportunity to listen to some unbelievable offers for the No. 1 pick. And they’re gonna have the chance to parlay that one pick – that came as a benefit from the Houston Texans, playing a game that they never should have won – into a bevy of future picks that can set up that franchise for years to come.”

Adam Schefter likely has a good idea of what is coming.

He is one of the most well-connected insiders out there. When he says something like this, it is a safe bet that it is true. Others have already hinted the Bears are receiving early offers from other teams. That figures to pick up steam as the veteran quarterback market comes into focus. Derek Carr looks like he may be heading to New Orleans. If so, that works in Chicago’s favor. Then there is the matter of Aaron Rodgers. Schefter confirmed his belief the future Hall of Famer will leave Green Bay, it comes down to whether it’s via trade or retirement. Early favorites for him include the Jets and Raiders.

New York would be preferable there. Presuming Lamar Jackson and Daniel Jones stay put with their current teams, it could leave five teams in the top 10 needing a quarterback. The Bears would be holding the golden ticket to the one of their choice. All they have to do is make Poles an offer he can’t refuse. That is why Adam Schefter seems so confident. He can see the picture unfolding. It comes down to patience. Let teams get desperate enough and then pull the trigger. Things could get crazy by late next month.
