Anybody with common sense could see what was happening when the Green Bay Packers picked Jordan Love in the 1st round last month. That was a clear message by the top brass. Aaron Rodgers was not going to control the destiny of the franchise any longer. They were. Experts understood that the future Hall of Famer might indeed follow the career path of the man he replaced in Brett Favre, finishing with another team.
Rumors have circulated that Rodgers was caught off guard by the pick. He’d hoped the Packers might give him another weapon in the passing game. Something he’s pushed for going on a few years now. Instead, they took Love. Many sources say he was pissed about it. However, he couldn’t risk inciting a riot by admitting as much when he finally spoke to the media.
That said, the star QB was more candid than he’s been maybe ever when asked about that pick. His answer was detailed, thoughtful, and a little bleak when it comes to his future with the franchise. He sounds like a man who believes he’ll be gone sooner than later.
Aaron Rodgers won’t last more than two seasons
Making predictions about what will happen next isn’t too hard. All one has to do is follow the economics. Love is on a four-year rookie contract. That’s four cheap, manageable seasons for the Packers to exploit. The longer they keep Rodgers as their starter, then shorter that window of opportunity becomes. This is why most experts believe he’ll be gone no later than the offseason of 2022.

It could be even sooner than that depending on how this upcoming season goes. If the team falters and misses the playoffs, they may just decide to hit that reset button and trade Rodgers to a new team. Will Love be able to fill that void? Maybe. His physical talent is obvious, but a lot of people are wary of his inconsistency and some other red flags that popped up in college. Green Bay better hope so.
