A Shocking Nugget on the Colts Could Drastically Impact Bears’ Plans

-

People will say the Chicago Bears can’t afford to be worried about what other teams do this offseason. They must stay focused on their own business. That isn’t how this works. What the 31 other teams do can have a profound impact on the decisions made by GM Ryan Pace and his front office. Especially in regards to the quarterback position. This is where things get really interesting.

According to draft insider Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, there is some fascinating buzz surrounding the Indianapolis Colts. The initial belief is the team would seek their next quarterback in the draft with their 13th pick. This despite rampant media speculation they would sign a veteran like Philip Rivers. However, others don’t feel that’s the case.

They feel Ballard might actually consider maintaining the status quo.

The Indianapolis Colts select at No. 13 overall in the first round, and many analysts are predicting a quarterback selection, but plugged-in evaluators across the league disagree. Said one rival personnel director, “I could see them rolling with Brissett for another year and focusing hard on the pass rush because someone is going to fall and [GM Chris] Ballard can’t help himself with ‘best player available’ picks.”

Colts standing pat would help the Chicago Bears

Most view the Colts as one of the prime destinations for a new quarterback for obvious reasons. They have plenty of money to spend and one of the better offensive lines in football. If this prediction proves accurate, it would take that destination off the board. This means the veteran QB market would shrink, creating less of a demand for a group that is widely considered one of the richest in recent memory.

This is an ideal scenario for Chicago because then it increases the odds of them being able to secure a quality QB at a more favorable price. Not everybody will be able to cash in on a huge contract as some have predicted. A few guys will have to settle for cheaper deals or even one-year prove it contracts in order to find a home so they can compete.

For a cash-strapped team like the Bears, this only works in their favor.
