Social media is a double-edged sword. It can be a phenomenal way to spread information faster and farther than ever before. At the same time, it can easily become a cesspool where the absolute worst parts of humanity come out. This is true of the sports world just as is politics, pop culture, or anywhere else. However, think about this everybody. It’s also the place where you can read incredible theories about Joe Flacco.

The former Super Bowl MVP has had a run towards the end of his career that is all too common. A veteran bouncing from team to team looking for his next opportunity to compete for a starting job. After being traded to the Denver Broncos in 2019, he moved on to the New York Jets in 2020. Now he’s in Philadelphia with the Eagles. His fourth team in four years.

One enterprising fan thinks he’ll be on a fifth in five years in 2022.

In fact, he’s convinced he knows exactly who that team will be. Full credit for this goes to Reddit user kamekaze1024 for an awesome breakdown. They explain that Flacco has developed a tendency. He tends to go to teams that faced and were beaten by Baltimore the year prior to his arrival. It was true of Denver, New York, and now Philadelphia. Based on the Ravens’ schedule this season, there is one team that stands out above the rest as his most likely new home in 2022. The Chicago Bears.

The selling point is clear enough. This user doesn’t believe the Bears will have their quarterback position settled by next year. Andy Dalton will be a free agent again and the threat of a high draft choice doesn’t sway him either. So unless Chicago finds a way to beat the Ravens in their matchup this season, they could end up employing Flacco next year. The football gods will demand it.

Joe Flacco would certainly further a longstanding Bears tradition

That of signing formerly accomplished quarterbacks who are way past their primes. The list has gotten rather impressive:

  • Kordell Stewart
  • Chris Chandler
  • Brian Griese
  • Nick Foles

Some will argue Dalton can be lumped into that group as well. So it wouldn’t be hard to predict what the reaction of Bears fans would be if Joe Flacco joined their team next year. In truth? The odds of this happening are remote. Everything points to the team likely having a young QB in place by that point. Somebody they draft high this year. Either in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

So unless Flacco is willing to be a pure backup, he’s not coming here.

Would that be such a bad thing? Yes. Let’s just say the former Super Bowl MVP hasn’t been stellar in his past two years as a backup and spot starter. He’s 2-10 with 12 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and an 83.6 passer rating. Not to mention he will be 37-years old by that point. The Bears would be better off just throwing their money elsewhere for a viable backup. Somebody cheap who can move around and make a few plays.
