3 Biggest Takeaways From The Chicago Bears Preseason

-

The Chicago Bears preseason is finally over. Here are the three most important things I’ve learned from it.

The Bears Offensive Line Needs Help

When the Bears offensive line is healthy, I believe it’s better than average. But during training camp and preseason, there’s already been a ton of injuries. All three of the Bears centers are currently dealing with injuries. The line is beat up and the first game of the season is right around the corner. Ryan Poles needs to start making calls immediately. They still have money and draft picks they can use. They should bring in another center and another guard or tackle. It’s crucial to protect Fields, otherwise, the new weapons on offense won’t make much of a difference.

Justin Fields: Will He Be Ready For Week 1?

I really believe in Justin Fields, but this preseason hasn’t shown us much. DJ Moore is impressive – he made two big plays after the catch. He’s the real deal. Other than that, the offense hasn’t been very promising. In the game against the Bills, they had two drives where they couldn’t get a first down, and Fields didn’t throw the ball as accurately as he should in a few instances. This makes me a bit concerned. Maybe it’s just a matter of shaking off some rust, so I won’t jump to conclusions and get overly worried about the preseason. We’ve seen Fields perform really well before, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll do the same when the regular season starts. The regular season is a whole different ball game. I hope the entire offense is healthy when we face Green Bay in week 1. Is the Bears offense prepared? We’re about to find out.

The Bears Defense Will Be Better Than We Thought

The team’s defensive front is expected to perform better than anticipated. While it might not reach a top 10 ranking, it’s possible that with the addition of a star pass rusher, this unit could become one of the best in the league or at least top 10. This defense might give up big plays to good opponents, but they will help the Bears stay competitive in most games. This will provide opportunities for the Fields and the offense to take advantage of favorable field position. When comparing this season’s defense to last year’s, the improvement is remarkable.
