Chiefs GM Virtually Guarantees Bears Will Land This Free Agent

-

Inside information is hard to come across in the NFL. Teams are so paranoid about revealing anything that might tip off their intentions. This is particularly true in regards to player acquisition during free agency and the draft. GM Ryan Pace is quite the wizard in this regard. His drafting of Mitch Trubisky was a masterpiece of misdirection. In some cases, though things are out of his hands. Things like Chiefs GM Brett Veach basically letting the cat out of the bag on one likely Chicago Bears free agent pursuit.

Having a new head coach in Matt Nagy means the roster will undergo changes for the Bears. As with John Fox back in 2015, there’s a strong possibility the Bears could look towards players that Nagy has coached or is familiar with. Players who understand his philosophy and his system. They could prove quite beneficial to others on the roster.

One name that has stuck out from the getgo is Albert Wilson. The former undrafted receiver was with Nagy for four seasons from 2014 through 2017. During that time he developed into a quality #3 target for the #5 ranked Chiefs offense. Veach was asked about what Wilson’s future may be. It seems he’s not even trying to hide the obvious.

Chiefs GM all but guarantees the Bears will secure Wilson in free agency

It’s no secret the Bears are in the hunt for help at wide receiver. Their passing offense ranked dead last in 2017. Their leading target was Kendall Wright who had 614 yards. That was while being targeted 91 times. Wilson managed a respectable 553 yards last year despite only getting 62 targets. It looks like his best football is ahead of him.

He’s not the biggest or fastest but Wilson is a smart player who runs sharp routes and shows good awareness and body control when making the catch. He should make a for a quality slot receiver who gives the Bears a dependable option on third down when they need to move the sticks. Such players don’t always get the headlines but quarterbacks love them more than people think.

The best part is he’s not likely to command top dollar. He should come fairly cheap, allowing the Bears to freely seek out more help at the position if they wish. Combine Wilson with two or three more upgrades and Mitch Trubisky should be all smiles this season. Free agency begins March 14th. Keep the name in mind.
