Insider Calls For the Bears To Double Down at Wide Receiver

-

GM Ryan Pace knew the status quo wasn’t going to work for the Chicago Bears wide receiver position much longer. There was no way the team could survive another nine games playing well only on defense and the running game. If they were going to make the most of their recent surge to 3-4, they have to find a way to open up the passing game. That’s why they chose to deal a seventh round pick for veteran Dontrelle Inman.

The 28-year old is an instant upgrade over what they have at present. He posted 810 yards and four touchdowns in 2016. Unfortunately a loaded depth chart and new coaching staff combined to see his playing time erased this year. Sensing an opportunity, Pace got him on the cheap to come into a situation where he’s guaranteed to get action.

Together with Kendall Wright that at least gives the Bears a little more credibility. However, could this be the only move they make? The trade deadline is still five days away on October 31st. That could be enough time for Pace to make another move, and one top NFL insider is calling out one name as a possibility.

Adam Schefter can see Martavis Bryant as Chicago Bears wide receiver

It’s always interesting whenever longtime insider Adam Schefter proposes certain ideas, given how well-informed he is. That’s why the first of his list of possible deadline trades was so interesting. He believes the window remains open for the Bears to make a move, this time for a certain disgruntled receiver in Pittsburgh.

“The Bears add needed help at wide receiver, and the Steelers dump a headache, as Bryant continues to issue demands. Bryant can only hope Mitch Trubisky throws it a bit more than the seven (!) times he did last week, as the Bears beat the Panthers.”

Schefter has the Bears surrendering a fifth round pick in such a deal. It’s a fascinating idea. Bryant is not happy with the Steelers and their unwillingness to get him the football more. Thus far the team has remained adamant they have no intention of trading the 25-year old. Whether that’s true or they’re just not showing their hand to the rest of the league is unknown.

It’s clear though that Bryant wants out. He wants to join a team that will use him, just like Inman. If the Bears were to deal for him, that would suddenly give Trubisky a trio of Bryant, Inman and Wright going into the second half of the season. Far better than what they had just over 24 hours ago.

It would also leave the Bears with only five picks in the 2018 draft. That means Pace might have to get creative to refill the coffers.
