Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio understands football is his primary focus. However, he’s made it known since arriving in 2015 that he’s an avid baseball fan. Not only that but he also isn’t shy about boasting his status as a good luck charm. In 1983 he headed off to Baltimore to coach for their USFL team and the Orioles won the World Series. Years later in 2005 the Houston Astros made the series for the first time when he was with the Texans.

Then he headed to Stanford in 2010 and San Francisco from 2011 to 2014 during which time the Giants won three championships. Sure enough the moment he arrived in Chicago the Cubs reached the NLCS in 2015 and won their first World Series in 108 years last November. So he’s a man who feels he can say whatever must be said regarding the baseball teams of his home city.

Turns out he had some particularly sharp words for two of the Cubs best players ahead of the decisive Game 5 in Washington against the Nationals. (continue to next page)
