There were so many interesting story lines during the Cubs historic World Series run last year that fans will remember forever. Schwarber’s comeback, Rossy’s home run, and Zobrist’s game winning base hit that FINALLY gave the Cubs the World Series ring they’ve been waiting for since 1908.

The one memory that I’ll always remember was the speech that Jason Heyward gave during the infamous rain delay of Game 7. I don’t think I have to re-set the scene of what had just occurred but let’s just say that the Cubs were faced with pissing away an opportunity to win the World Series after they had Game 7 all but won.

The curse, the goat, Bartman, all of that shit would have reared it’s ugly head had the rain delay not occurred as most fans (including Cubs fans) would tell you that the Cubs were on the verge of losing Game 7 of the World Series and adding yet another year to their championship drought.

That’s when Jason Heyward stepped in and held a players only meeting during the 17 minute rain delay that refocused the Cubs on the task at hand. The problem with the speech however, was the fact that nobody really stated what was said.

After the World Series was over, player after player was asked what Heyward said that changed their mindset during Game 7. Most of the players kind of just laughed and smiled and said something along the lines of, “He just told us what we needed to hear at that time.”

A pretty generic answer.

Now, thanks to SI’s Tom Verducci, fans can finally hear what Heyward told the team that helped them go on to win the 2016 World Series.
