One Track Mind
After spending an hour discussing chemistry, playing and growing together, and becoming a closer-knit group, the three leaders of the Chicago Bulls had the perfect representation of that unity before they wrapped up their interview. The last question, asking if they had any goals for the next few months, produced a matching answer from all three.
“I just want to make the playoffs. I just want to make the playoffs with the guys. The playoffs.. That’s the end goal.”

While all three immediately mentioned the playoffs as the lone goal for this season, they each also backed up their aspirations with reassurances that they cannot get caught looking ahead, must stay focused in the present, and that it’ll be a brutal uphill battle to reach that point. As a team that hasn’t seen postseason play in four years, they know too well how challenging it is to qualify for the NBA Playoffs.
Josh Giddey’s Leadership Showing Through
Josh Giddey is the most talented player on the Chicago Bulls. He nearly posts a triple-double nightly, scoring the most points and having the most assists on the team, while also being second in rebounding and controlling the chemistry offensively. His addition has nearly single-handedly turned the fate of the franchise for the next decade. While the leadership between the lines is evident, his maturity and presence of mind off the court are also apparent in this interview. Almost every answer throughout the hour was related to the team’s need to execute, prove growth between the lines, and lean on one another. Having invaluable experience from a championship-level squad with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he’s seen firsthand what it takes to convert a bottom-dwelling group to a top-level contender.

Even when answering that final question, the goals moving forward, after the first two youngsters immediately noted the playoffs, Giddey rerouted them to think of the next game, week, and month of work ahead. He mentioned they have lost three of their last four, and the response was pivotal to their future success. He discussed the gauntlet of a schedule they would face over the next two weeks and remained stern, emphasizing that the immediate future was the most important thing for the young core. Giddey’s ability to bring the others down to reality, focus on winning each outing, and highlight the importance of consistency has flashed a side of maturity and veteranship that hasn’t yet been seen from him.
