Ben Johnson Confirms Where Joe Thuney And Jonah Jackson Will Play

-

The Chicago Bears have been busy reshaping both their offensive and defensive lines over the past week, making two trades and signing three free agents. Many believe these moves have transformed both sides of the ball in less than a week. New head coach Ben Johnson and GM Ryan Poles met with the media this afternoon to discuss the recent acquisitions. However, Dayo Odeyingbo and Drew Dalman weren’t available to speak since they still need to complete their physicals. The rest of the new players, however, did meet with reporters.

One of the key questions during the press conference was about the roles of Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson on the offensive line. While most assumed Thuney would play left guard, Johnson essentially confirmed the team’s plan. He stated that Thuney will start at left guard and Jackson will line up at right guard, showing confidence in both players.

Later that day, Thuney and Jackson held a joint press conference, addressing the media for the first time as Bears. Jackson sounded confident about switching to right guard, leaving little doubt that he’ll adjust smoothly.

“My first start in the NFL was actually at right guard against the Chicago Bears,” Jackson said. “I think I’ll do just fine.”

Interestingly, that first start at right guard came in 2020 against a Bears defensive front featuring Akiem Hicks, Khalil Mack, and Robert Quinn. Jackson’s confidence — along with Johnson’s trust in the Bears new line — reflects a major shift for the offense. The line has been completely rebuilt, and optimism is running at an all-time high.
