Ryan Poles Finally Got Asked About Trey Smith. His Answer Was Telling

-

The NFL Combine kicks off on Thursday, and the Bears front office has already arrived in Indianapolis. General Manager Ryan Poles spoke to the media at 9 AM on Tuesday, addressing several key questions as the team enters one of its most crucial offseason in recent memory.

One of the biggest uncertainties this offseason is how the Bears will approach free agency. When asked about their strategy, Poles stated, “If there are certain players that check all the boxes you need, you can really be aggressive to go get them.” This is a noteworthy comment, as several players on the market seem to fit Chicago’s needs—one of them being Kansas City’s guard Trey Smith.

When Poles was asked about his role in drafting Smith during his time with the Chiefs, he quickly shut down any speculation, suggesting the media was fishing for hints about the Bears interest in pursuing the offensive lineman.

“I’m not going to get into players that aren’t on our roster right now, but I was proud to be part of that draft process,” Poles responded.

His reluctance to discuss Smith stands out, as he has previously been open when discussing other teams’ players or positions of need on the Bears roster. This sudden shift in approach raises the question—just how serious is Chicago about bringing Smith to the Windy City?
