Caleb Williams has remained consistent in his message since arriving in April. Yards and touchdowns are nice. None of that matters. The only thing he is focused on as quarterback of the Chicago Bears is winning games. He put his money where his mouth was on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Rather than try to carry the team as he did all the time in college, Williams elected to play the role of distributor. He went 17-of-23 for 157 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers. The running game piled up 131 yards and two touchdowns, while the defense forced two turnovers.
As a result, the Bears beat a desperate team 24-18 to reach 2-2, keeping their postseason hopes alive. They now have a chance to build some serious momentum against the 1-3 Carolina Panthers and 0-4 Jacksonville Jaguars over the next two weeks. Nothing summed up Williams’ feelings on the matter better than the video of him walking off the field after the final whistle. Holding the winning ball, he had a huge grin on his face. Then as he approached the tunnel, he jumped in the air and screamed joyously to the fans.

Whatever it takes. Last week, the Bears needed him to put the ball in the air against Indianapolis, covering for their struggling ground attack. He posted 363 yards and two touchdowns but three turnovers. This week he made a conscious effort to protect the ball and run the offense. He didn’t try to be the hero. It worked out. Every phase of the team contributed. If this trend continues, there will be more wins coming in the near future. The stats will work themselves out.
You won’t hear anybody in the locker room complain. One could argue Caleb Williams’ big touchdown pass to D.J. Moore right after Los Angeles narrowed the lead to 10-9 was a pivotal moment. His ability to answer the bell and keep his team in a rhythm was crucial. One also can’t forget the 22-yard dime to Cole Kmet on the next drive to convert a 2nd and 10. That set up D’Andre Swift’s game-clinching 36-yard touchdown run. He wasn’t in the spotlight, but Williams play a key role in this one.
