More Evidence Caleb Williams To The Bears Is A Lock

-

The Chicago Bears haven’t said it outright, but the signs are impossible to miss. Unless something insane happens over the next three weeks, Caleb Williams will be their next quarterback. Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus have had nothing but good things to say about him. The team has met with him, his teammate, and his coaches extensively for weeks. Not once has it felt like any of the other quarterbacks have gotten near the same amount of attention. Maybe it’s an elaborate ruse by the Bears, but there isn’t any need for it. Nobody is jumping in front of them.

More than that, it appears Williams also isn’t too motivated to hide the reality. When speaking at his pro day about the Keenan Allen trade, he had a minor slip, stating “we” got him for a 4th round pick. Maybe an honest mistake or a signal that he already considers himself a Bear. If people needed more warning signs, eagle-eyed fans caught the quarterback liking an Instagram post showcasing an apartment in downtown Chicago. It feels like there is no reason for that unless the rumors are true.

Caleb Williams is likely already making plans for the summer.

Eberflus stated the team would continue the “install” during the quarterback’s private visit this month. In other words, they will teach him about their new offense under coordinator Shane Waldron. They would only do that if they were already planning to take him. What better way to spend the visit than giving him a head start on the scheme he’ll have to learn? Having prior knowledge of this also allows him to scour for a permanent home in or around Chicago. He should be well-prepared for training camp when it arrives in July.

The only complaint people should have about this development is it takes the element of surprise away from the #1 pick. Then again, that is hardly new. Everybody understood Jacksonville was taking Trevor Lawrence in 2021. The same was true of Joe Burrow in 2020. Sometimes, the decision is made well in advance. While that might not be great for television, it is good for the Bears. Caleb Williams is their guy, and almost everybody agrees he is the type of prospect who can push them to the next level.
