NFL Insider Provides Update on Justin Fields Future After Lions Game

-

If you were to ask most fans and analysts about Justin Fields performance against the Detroit Lions last Sunday, you’d probably receive many B+ and A grades. Fields played mistake-free football, was impactful when needed, and some of his contributions didn’t even make the stat sheet due to a drop or conservative play-calling. Ian Rapport, the National Insider for NFL Network, offered an optimistic update on Justin Fields following his performance on Sunday.

“This was a really good product that Justin Fields put on the field.. If this is what he’s going to be ,this is going to be an even more interesting decision this off-season.”

Justin Fields successfully passed the initial test in his comeback from injury. I will be assessing his performance based on a series of seven tests which correlate to the remaining seven games of the season. If he passes six of them, it would signify that he has earned the right to stay in Chicago for at least another year. To pass these tests, he needs to consistently play well, which has been a significant challenge for him. He will also need to produce, limit turnovers, and continue to elevate players around him.

Fields recent performance against Detroit showcased the qualities we hope to see from him on a consistent basis. He played with confidence, demonstrating playmaking abilities in both passing and running. Ian Rapoport’s report is reassuring, but Fields knows that his play will be scrutinized for the rest of the season.

The upcoming test comes on Monday Night Football next week against the Minnesota Vikings. It presents a significant opportunity for him to build on the momentum he has gained over the last three or four games, even before his injury.

A big-time performance, reminiscent of his rookie season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which also occurred on Monday Night Football, would greatly benefit his stock with Ryan Poles.
