Grading The White Sox Top Prospects This Season: No. 7, Bryan Ramos

-

The next prospect, Bryan Ramos, is another prospect in the long line of players in the White Sox system to be signed from Cuba. He signed as a 16-year-old in 2018 for 500,000 dollars and would eventually come stateside in the following year.

He would play well in the Arizona Complex League as a 17-year-old in 2019 playing about 56 games there. He would make his way to Kannapolis as a 19-year-old and he would play all of the 2021 season there, as he lost out of the minor league season due to COVID canceling the minor leagues in 2020.

In 2022, he would start at high A Winston-Salem, and there he played very well. He would hit .275 with an impressive .350 on-base percentage. He would add 19 home runs and 74 RBIs, a very impressive power outing from him. This would earn him a spot at Project Birmingham.

In Birmingham, he would play 21 games, hitting .225 with a .279 OBP. He added three home runs and 12 RBIs. Not bad, but not great. It was a small sample size and he was only 20 playing in AA.

Ramos would be unfortunately limited to only 81 games in 2023 due to injury. He played 4 games at Kannapolis for rehab before making his way back to Birmingham for the remainder of the season. Despite being injured, Ramos had a great season and has cemented himself as one of the better-hitting prospects in the organization.

He hit .274 with a .369 OBP in 77 games. He added 14 home runs, 48 RBIs, and four stolen bases. Overall a very good offensive season for Ramos. With Jake Burger in Miami, he could be the next man up if Moncada gets hurt.

Unfortunately, Ramos is not nearly as good in the field as Moncada, but luckily that is something that one can improve on, even once they make it to the majors. Last year Ramos made 13 errors at 3rd, so that is an area of improvement he should focus on if he wants to be in the everyday lineup.

Ramos has gotten some solid work in the Arizona Fall League this year hitting .267 with two homeruns in 16 games. It is nice for him to get a little bit of extra work after missing a good chunk of games early in the season.

Overall, I would grade his season a B+ Ramos takes walks which is a very good sign that he will be a solid major league hitter. If he can clean up his fielding, he could easily take over third base in 2025 if the White Sox decide to move on from Yoan Moncada.

I would like to see him get a chance to make the team out of Spring Training, whether it is as a DH if the White Sox unload some players in the offseason, or at least come up if there is an injury of some sort.
