In the latest BFR Podcast episode, presented by Sports Mockery, we had current Chicago Bears running back, Darrynton Evans on the show. During our conversation, Darrynton shared his insights on the Bears quarterbacks, Tyson Bagent and Justin Fields. Even though Evans has had limited experience with Bagent, I asked about his impressions of being part of Bagent’s first NFL career start. Here’s what he had to say about the undrafted rookie QB.
“He did what he was supposed to do. He managed the game well. Took care of the ball and put us in a position to win a game. That’s all you ask for in a QB in the league.”
Evans recently joined the Bears just a few weeks ago. Due to this, he wasn’t really present with Tyson Bagent during the off-season or training camp. He didn’t have the opportunity to track any development from that time leading up to Bagent’s first NFL start against the Las Vegas Raiders. However, I also asked about his thoughts on Justin Fields, who he is more familiar with since they played together last season and of course spent time together this year.
“I feel like Justin’s a 1 of 1 talent. Is he an elite quarterback, that can be a franchise quarterback? Easily.”
Darrynton went on to express his confusion about the recent social media noise that’s been criticizing Justin Fields. He pointed out that some people underestimate Fields contributions to the team. While some doubt Fields being the long-term answer for the Bears, Evans definitely sees him as a franchise quarterback. He made a somewhat poetic comment about Fields potentially moving to another team.
“You don’t know how good you got it, until it’s not there.”
Evans is absolutely right. Teams and fans often give up on players too quickly. Justin Fields still has a chance to prove he’s the guy for the Bears moving forward, but the clock is ticking.
