Justin Fields had people questioning his work ethic before the 2021 draft. When a guy like Urban Meyer speaks out publicly against the absurdity of such a statement, you know it’s probably not true. In the several months since joining the Chicago Bears, fans have realized how much of a workaholic their new quarterback is. He doesn’t know the meaning of the word relaxation. Any chance he gets to work out, watch film, or study the offense? He’s doing it.
That hasn’t changed even as the team broke up for their month-and-a-half break before training camp. While other players may choose to go on a nice vacation to rest, Fields doesn’t seem interested. He was spotted by his longtime train Simeon Kelley doing work on a treadmill. There are no days off for this guy. Nobody can say for sure if he will be good or not, but they also can’t say he doesn’t put in the time.
Justin Fields is 100% committed to the task.
That is most important. When the quarterback sets the tone for work ethic, everybody else on the team is expected to follow his example. That is where Fields is separating himself from previous Bears QBs. While others like Jay Cutler and Mitch Trubisky worked hard, they never seemed to go all-in as Fields has. Matt Nagy always talked about being obsessed when it comes to this job. This kid is living proof of that concept.
Head coach Matt Eberflus said he wanted players rested and ready for training camp but also in shape. They’re going to be running a lot. Justin Fields took those words to heart. He looks like he’s in fantastic condition and ready for July 28th when practices begin. Excitement is building for what’s to come. Expectations are low for the quarterback this year. If anything, that should serve him well. It will serve as great motivation for him to play good football.
