Allen Robinson is a smart guy. Especially when it comes to handling the media. The wide receiver has never caused any sort of controversy in regards to his answers. However, nobody is perfect. Even he can let some interesting nuggets slip from time to time. Something that is notable both due to who he is and the overall situation surrounding him. That took place during an interview with Keyshawn, JWill, & Max.
The hosts weren’t afraid to ask hard questions about Robinson’s situation in Chicago. They, like everybody else, know he’s in the middle of a contract squabble with the Bears. Barring something unexpected, he should be a free agent by next spring. That is unless the team shows a willingness to up their money offer that he has deemed unsatisfactory. Robinson sidestepped most of the questions, but one seemed to catch him.
Who are his favorite type of quarterbacks in the league?
This was interesting. It offered a potential idea of what Robinson might be thinking once he becomes available next March. Perhaps a preview of the team he may hope to sign with. It isn’t a stretch to believe he’ll seek to play with a top quarterback. A byproduct of playing with guys like Blake Bortles and Mitch Trubisky. A few notable names were mentioned.
It’s interesting that he mentioned those quarterbacks. Matthew Stafford is in Los Angeles enjoying the best start to any season in his career. Next season they are limited in cap space but will likely be able to secure lots more both due to the expected retirement of Andrew Whitworth and an extension for Stafford himself. That would open the door to sign Robinson.

Meanwhile, teams like Tampa Bay (Brady) and Arizona (Murray) will have $27 million each in cap space with an ability to create more if needed. So those options are open as well. Don’t forget Arizona will lose Christian Kirk to free agency while the same can happen with Chris Godwin in Tampa. Is Robinson sizing up his preferred landing spots? It wouldn’t be a surprise.
Allen Robinson will leave the ball in the Bears’ court
He has made it clear time and again he’d like to stay in Chicago. He loves the city and the fans. His desire is to win a championship and break every franchise receiving record. To his credit, he hasn’t let any of his contract business infect the locker room. He remains a strong leader and has taken on a more vocal presence this season. The Bears aren’t getting a player who has checked out. They’re getting his best.
Perhaps the biggest variable in all of this is Justin Fields. The 11th overall pick took some nice steps forward in the win over Detroit last week. If he continues progressing as the starter over the next few months, could that help convinced Allen Robinson to stay? Only he can answer that question.
One thing we know for sure?
It doesn’t sound like he is afraid to leave. His services will be desired somewhere and it seems like his big hope is to find a team that both has a quarterback and enough money to meet his desired price.
