New Team Pinpointed As Possible Nick Foles Trade Destination

-

Nick Foles isn’t going to be the primary focus for the Chicago Bears in the months to come. However, it’s apparent the team isn’t keen on keeping him around if they can avoid it. With Andy Dalton and Justin Fields in town, they have their desired #1 and #2 guys for the regular season to come. Foles is overpaid to be a #3 guy and they can’t stash him on the practice squad like they did Tyler Bray for the past few years.

Unless they’re prepared to carry three quarterbacks into the season, their best hope is to find a trade partner. Thus far that hasn’t happened. Teams seem content with their quarterback rooms as of now. Of course, things change rapidly in the NFL. It may not be long before somebody comes calling on Foles’ services. Speculation to this point has centered on the New York Jets. Not a surprise given they have nobody behind #2 overall pick Zach Wilson who has taken a snap in an NFL game before.

They remain the favorite.

However, they might not be the only team that comes calling at some point. NFL insider Mike Florio of NBC Sports and his colleague, former QB Chris Simms both seem to think the Tennessee Titans are the team to watch. While they already have Ryan Tannehill, their backup situation isn’t nearly as ideal. Former 2nd round pick Deshone Kizer who flamed out in Cleveland and Green Bay and former undrafted free agent Logan Woodside.

Considering the Titans are a contending team in the AFC, would they really want to risk handing the keys to either of those two were Tannehill to go down? Don’t forget the quarterback does have a history of injuries. He missed eight games between 2017 and 2018 during his final two seasons in Miami. While not “injury-prone,” he’s proven susceptible to them in the past. Having Foles behind him certainly would seem appealing.

Nick Foles action likely to come around training camp

Right now teams aren’t in a rush to make changes. They use OTAs and minicamps to get a true sense of what they have at every position. That includes quarterbacks. Maybe the youngsters play well enough to where coaches are confident going with what they have despite the inexperience. Still, there is over a month before things get serious when training camp begins on July 31st.

Nick Foles isn’t going anywhere. He will be on the Bears’ roster this season until somebody comes calling. The Titans do make sense. They have the motive and the means. It won’t cost much to get him. Likely a late round pick. Tennessee has just shy of $7 million in cap space. They should be able to create a little more to take on Foles’ deal and still leave wiggle room for the season.

Or maybe the Jets come calling.

Either way, the Bears are capable of carrying Foles into the season if they must. At the same time, there could be an advantage in waiting this out. If an injury happens to the right team in the right circumstances, Chicago could get more for the veteran quarterback than many expect.
