Something Else Reportedly Holding Up Carson Wentz Trade To Bears

-

Nobody has any direct information on what’s going on with the Carson Wentz trade saga. All anybody knows for sure to this point is two teams are the current favorites to land him. The Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts. After it seems so certain the quarterback would be dealt right after the Super Bowl, things have gone completely silent. What happened?

The working theory is the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t get the sort of offer they were hoping for. So GM Howie Roseman has decided to stall talks for the time being. The idea is to wait things out until one of those teams gets desperate and up their offer. However, it may not be as simple as that. One other factor could be preventing the quarterback from coming to Chicago besides the asking price.

Wentz himself.

Albert Breer of the MMQB has it on good authority that the Bears have the best offer on the table right now. They are the frontrunners. The problem is Wentz might be resisting the idea of coming to Chicago. He wants to reunite with Frank Reich in Indianapolis where he’d obviously get to play in a dome behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Matt Nagy and the Bears coaching staff reportedly feel they can fix the mechanical issues that plagued Wentz last season. The problem is the quarterback doesn’t see a stable situation in Chicago. Nagy and GM Ryan Pace may be coming back for 2021 but most around the NFL believe it will be a win-or-else season where a down year could get them fired. Breer explained all of it during his appearance on The Herd.

Carson Wentz trade can’t happen if QB isn’t committed

In essence, what he’s saying is the Carson Wentz trade might’ve already happened by now. The issue is the quarterback wants to go to Indianapolis instead. So the Eagles have decided to drag the situation out in hopes the Colts make a more competitive offer. This would explain why Chicago was reportedly “growing impatient” with how long the process is taking.

So which is it? Is it more Wentz really doesn’t want to join the Bears or more he really wants to play in Indianapolis? It’s hard to know for sure. One thing is clear. The last thing the Bears need is a 28-year old quarterback who doesn’t want to be there coming into the building. Nagy and Pace need to make absolutely sure Wentz all in. Otherwise, they’re wasting their time.

There are already enough red flags surrounded the quarterback as is.

He’s coming off the worst season of his career. One where he was benched for a rookie. He had a public falling out with head coach Doug Pederson who then got fired despite winning a Super Bowl three years ago and making the playoffs three-straight years. Then there are reports of Wentz being a questionable leader who doesn’t take well to hard coaching.

His talent is obvious. There is still a good football player in there somewhere. It’s just hard to imagine the Bears bringing him back. Especially if he doesn’t want to be found.
