The Chicago Bears aren’t yet sure who their quarterback will be on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers. A pretty important decision. However, it seems like the decision is taking care of itself. With their first injury report of the week, some revelations were made. Nick Foles failed to practice due to the hip injury he suffered last week against Minnesota. Mitch Trubisky meanwhile practiced in full, apparently recovered from his shoulder injury suffered against New Orleans.

Head coach Matt Nagy stated that Foles was day-to-day with his injury. Whether or not he plays first comes down to availability. If he’s not somewhere close to 100% ready to go, then there is no need to make a decision. Trubisky looked “good” in practice according to him and seems prepared to go if the Bears give him the green light. It would be his first start of the year since his fateful benching back in September against Atlanta.

Will it matter though?

The Bears offense is a complete tailspin. They’ve looked awful for weeks and have no life. Nothing has gone right for them. Most felt a move back to Trubisky was inevitable mostly because the offensive line hasn’t been able to protect Foles. His mobility would’ve at least allowed him to keep more plays (and hopefully drives) alive.

It is certainly a notable time for him to come back. Off a bye week going into Lambeau Field against the division-leading Green Bay Packers? Not exactly easing him back into the lineup. Trubisky has beaten them just once in his career and they held him and the offense to 16 points combined over the past two meetings.

Safe to say they probably aren’t sweating whether he plays or not.

Mitch Trubisky has a rare opportunity to flip the script

Most people are already predicting what will happen. The Bears will come out flat and disjointed. Green Bay will get their lead and cruise to an easy win. Unless the offense can actually score points? This isn’t a game they’re equipped to win. If anything, this could play into Trubisky’s favor. Just imagine what happens if he ends up playing well and somehow delivers a victory.

It will force everybody, including those inside the organization to pause and think for a moment. Had they pulled the plug on him too soon? Mitch Trubisky has six games in front of him now. If he can deliver a winning record and a playoff berth after everything he’s been through, that will raise his profile out of the mud and back into serious conversations about whether he can be a starter in this league.

That is a lot of projection though.

Heavily dependent on him doing something he’s never done to this point in his career. Playing a good 60-minute game on the road in Green Bay. There is a first time for everything but one can understand if Bears fans are skeptical. Nothing about the past two years should give them the confidence to believe he can do it.
