Allen Robinson remains the focal point of the Chicago Bears passing attack. What the team needs to find out is whether they have anybody who can be a strong #2 option next to him. It’s hoped that former 2nd round pick Anthony Miller will be that guy. His finish to 2019 offers evidence he is fully capable of being a 1,000-yard receiver. The athleticism and quickness were always there. It was a matter of whether he could master NFL route running.
This he seems to have done. Yet through the first week of training camp, there were few signs of him. This is due in part to his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. However, it appears the third-year receiver has started to turn up the juice. Bears media have mentioned him a number of times in the past week as starting to make impact plays.
Then the scrimmage at Soldier Field on Saturday arrived. While the tight ends drew much of the attention along with the quarterbacks, the highlights show that Miller was a guy who kept making the tougher catches.
Anthony Miller positioned to have a career year
One thing people aren’t talking about is how much the revamped tight end position could help Miller. With Jimmy Graham and Cole Kmet being able to demand more attention over the middle, it should lead to more advantageous matchups for Miller in the slot. When the Bears had passable tight end play in 2018, he ended up scoring seven touchdowns.

All that is left is the big question. Can he stay healthy? Miller has dealt with multiple shoulder issues already in his career. He’s yet to make it through a full season without a setback of some kind. There is no denying his talent. The problem is that doesn’t mean much if he can’t stay on the field. This is the last, biggest hurdle he’ll have to clear in order to reach potential stardom.
