New Bears Addition Is Already A Big Mitch Trubisky Fan

-

The Chicago Bears are still holding out hope that Mitch Trubisky can blossom into something like what they expected. His talent has never been in question. His drive and will to win are there too. It’s just that something is missing. He just seems a step too late on his reads and can’t seem to throw with consistent accuracy. That is part of why they traded for Nick Foles. It’s hoped the threat of competition might help nudge him to that next level.

One thing is for sure. His thirst for hard work has not diminished. It’s already left an impression with Demetrius Harris. The big tight end was one of the early additions this offseason by the Bears. He had a desire to rejoin Matt Nagy whom he’d worked with in Kansas City. Already he’s joined workouts with Trubisky along with Allen Robinson, Tarik Cohen, and David Montgomery.

From what he’s seen so far, the veteran is impressed.

“Hard worker. I really didn’t know him at the time. That’s all I really do is play football. I didn’t really watch it outside because that’s what you do all day. So I didn’t really know too much about him but what I’ve seen work ethic, man, just trying to get on the same page as me and the other guys. You’re just really trying to hit the ground running. We’re all fighting for something. Every day we get together, we work hard. We have fun, music planning and get to it every day…

…He’s just a hard worker and I like him. I don’t know. What I see, where I come from? I like him.”

Mitch Trubisky hasn’t lost his will to compete

The great news in all of this is that Trubisky isn’t sitting around doing nothing. He could easily be offended by the Bears’ decision to bring in Foles. Instead, he shrugged his shoulders and is back to work. He’s pushing himself as hard as ever. That is exactly the sort of reaction he needed to have. Not that of a man who feels disrespected but one who suddenly realizes that what he’s been to this point isn’t good enough.

There is no telling what the future holds. The Bears have done what they can to get him more help. They overhauled the coaching staff, bringing in lots more quarterback expertise. Harris comes along with Jimmy Graham and Cole Kmet to bolster the tight end position. Ted Ginn Jr. adds extra speed at wide receiver. Maybe it’s not perfect but it at least shows the team is trying to help him realize his potential.

The rest is up to him.
