Matt Nagy Made Two Things Crystal Clear in Latest Press Conference

-

Matt Nagy met with the Chicago Bears media again on June 9th for an update on his team. He had a somewhat surprising announcement. The offseason work for his players would be cut short by a week and a half. Virtual meetings would conclude the 11th and then players would be free until hopefully training camp next month. During that time he made it clear he wants them to focus on staying in shape.

Something that OTAs and minicamps won’t be able to help them with this year.

One thing he doesn’t seem interested in though? The idea of discussing what happened last year. Or any of the past seasons for that matter. Nagy shut down the idea of discussing any more of what happened in 2019. That time is over in his mind. Everything is about focusing on this 2020 season.

“That’s gone. We don’t care anymore about 2019. We don’t care about 2018. We are in a really good place right now.”

Matt Nagy is right to keep the focus on this year

The reality is the coach can’t afford to waste anymore time on what happened last season. He wishes it didn’t happen that way but there’s no changing it. Too much is riding on this 2020 season for him to lament it any longer. There’s a possibility a lot of guys could lose their jobs if he and the Bears don’t deliver. He was hired to make this team a winner. Two disappointing years after going 12-4 in his first wouldn’t be the best look.

The good news is the players have responded to these unique circumstances with enthusiasm. He’s confident they’ll be ready when camp opens next month. That is when the first actual on-field work can finally begin.
