Take it from somebody who experienced it twice in his lifetime. Divorce is almost never cordial. It’s not fun. It’s not easy. More often than not, it can get ruthless and petty in a hurry. Two people grew so bitter together that they are willing to do whatever it takes to hurt each other as a split becomes inevitable. It appears this is what’s happening between former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and his soon-to-be-ex-wife Kristin Cavallari.
News broke recently that the two had begun the process of a divorce. Something that had apparently been growing more and more inevitable in the past few months. Now according to TMZ, Cavallari file court documents accusing Cutler of withholding money from her. Money she wishes to use for buying a new house.
The details paint a fairly clear picture of how bad it’s gotten.
“She says she started the buying process, but stopped when she and Jay decided to give the marriage one more chance. That didn’t last more than a few months … Kristin says they realized “divorce was inevitable,” and started talking about it in early March.
Kristin claims the nastiness started later that month when they got back from the Bahamas. In the docs, she claims Jay told her he would not release the funds she needed for the house. She thinks that was his way of “punishing” her.
It seems they also didn’t see eye-to-eye on child custody. Kristin reportedly claims he tried to intimidate her into accepting a custody arrangement she deemed “unfavorable” … and told her he wouldn’t leave the Tennessee home they currently share.”
Jay Cutler appears to have stagnated in retirement
Most accounts seem to think that the relationship shifted after Cutler retired. When he had more time at home, somewhere along the way the two began to sour on one another. Thus far the former QB hasn’t found any sort of new business venture. Not that he has to since he made tens of millions of dollars playing football. There have been constant rumbles he might get into broadcasting but that hadn’t come to pass yet.
It’s too late now. The relationship is fast decaying to a point where the two of them are getting nasty with their tactics. Cutler withholding money. Cavallari accusing him of marital misconduct. It’s difficult to tell which of them is more in the right. All one can say is it’s really an unfortunate situation for their three kids who find themselves right in the middle of no-mans-land.
