Bears Mailbag -- How Can Chicago Add Speed At WR?

Another week, another Bears Mailbag done from the confines of home, rather than some hotel somewhere. I’m getting used to this.

I'd go straight for the draft. Watch Jalen Raegor and K.J. Hamler on the speed front. Chase Claypool is a solid combo of size and speed.

It entirely depends on how their board stacks up. Good GMs don’t draft for need — they draft the best player on their board. Misevaluation is separate from bad strategy. Teams need to build a foundation from the draft, at all positions.

The Bears need to restructure some contracts to open up some cap room for Robinson's extension and to sign their draft class. I could see another couple bargain signings later in free agency. I wouldn't expect any more big moves.

Absolutely. They would have won the North last year if they hadn’t fielded arguably the worst QB in the NFL.

The Bears likely need to restructure some contracts first to clear room for Robinson's extension. I'd anticipate maybe another couple depth/competition signings, but no more major moves until the draft, when all bets are off via trade.

I think it’s likely. They just have to find a taker. This draft isn’t spectacular overall in terms of depth, so we’ll see how willing teams are to move.

This class is stacked at WR. If their board falls that way, they should take one.

They have enough possession receivers: Robinson, Wims, Ridley. They need speed. Take the speed.

It doesn't help. Add in the effects of COVID-19 on the upcoming training camps that will likely get shortened significantly, and there isn't a lot of time to prepare for the rigors of the NFL. Keep in mind that this will effect all teams — the onus is on players to self-prep.

Leno and Massie are better players than they showed in 2019. Hiestand isn't overrated, but his philosophy differed from Matt Nagy's. Nagy had to teach Hiestand and Mark Helfrich his offense before they translated to the players. A lot probably got lost in translation.

I'd rather trade down than trade up. I'd be OK with keeping them depending on who is on the board.

Foles isn't "the answer". But he's a (very likely steadier) option than Trubisky, and that's probably all Matt Nagy wants right now.

Not that I've seen or heard. I would honestly be shocked if the Bears were interested in Hurts. He isn't a great fit in their offense, nor is he a particularly good prospect.

I do. I think the Bears go at least 10-6 with Foles as the starter.
