Roquan Smith Celebrated the End of 2019 With a Car Crash

-

The end of the 2019 calendar year couldn’t have come faster for Roquan Smith. He was just starting to play some of his best football, looking like the star the Chicago Bears envisioned he could be. Then on one offensive series against the Giants, all of that progress was stripped away when he tore his pectoral muscle. Just like that, his season was over. Smith soon had surgery to repair the damage and is expected to be ready for training camp in July.

However, his roller coaster was not over. As the Bears were wrapping up the season with end-of-year press conference, news came out that the linebacker nearly got himself even more injured when he rammed his Mercedes into a light pole on the way to Halas Hall. According to NBC Chicago, he got caught on an icy road during a turn at an intersection. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt but was forced to leave the damaged car behind.

“Chicago Bears’ linebacker Roquan Smith was involved in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday in north suburban Lake Forest.

Authorities received a call of a crash about 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 60 and Field Drive, Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Rob Copeland said.

Icy road conditions caused Smith to lose control of his white 2019 Mercedes-Benz as he attempted a turn and he hit a traffic pole, Copeland said.

He was not injured in the collision, and he was given a ride to Halas Hall, Copeland said. No citations were issued.”
