Who was the best player in 2019 for the Chicago Bears? Anybody who has watched and/or covered the team for this season will likely give the same answer: Allen Robinson. The wide receiver was absolutely tremendous and under difficult circumstances. Despite the rest of the offense including his quarterback struggling, he was consistently productive with over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. No small feat given this is the Bears we’re talking about.
He is fast becoming arguably the best signing GM Ryan Pace has ever made not named Akiem Hicks. Not just because of his exploits on the field, but the impact he’s having off it. Robinson has fast become one of the most respected members of the locker room. One who has no intention of letting the disappointment of this season fester for long. If the Bears want to right the wrong, they need to get a head start in 2020.
As in right away. Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich revealed that the receiver has already talked to teammates about dragging them to stay with him during the offseason in order to put in work.
“He’s just a stud. Great dude to be around. Great team guy. I heard him say to a couple of wide outs about, ‘Hey in the offseason, you’re going to come live with me and do this, this, and this.’ Just…we need him. If had 100% Allen Robinsons as a player, a character type guy? We’d be in really good shape.”
Allen Robinson is the kind of player you keep
If people are searching for a reason why Larry Fitzgerald has lasted so long in Arizona over the years, Robinson offers the perfect example. Simply being good on the field is never enough. One has to embrace the challenges and responsibilities of being a leader off it too. These are the types of players who are so rare in the NFL. When you realize you have one in your midst, the smart thing to do is finding any and every way possible to keep them.

Robinson’s contract will enter its final year in 2020. It would not be a surprise in the slightest if the team began to take significant steps towards an extension. He’s 26-years old and in his prime. Given the other issues the offense is dealing with, this is one of those players they can’t risk losing. Besides, the longer he stays with the team the greater the impact he’ll have in the locker with younger teammates.
