Does Allen Robinson Want to Stay in Chicago? He Just Offered a Hint

-

Allen Robinson has to feel like a man on an island lately. He’s really been the only player on the entire offense this 2019 who has performed up to expectations. The wide receiver has posted 764 yards and four touchdowns through 11 games. already surpassing his total from last season and keeping him on course to top 1,000 for the season. The next closest target on the roster is Tayor Gabriel who has 353 yards, less than half of what Robinson has done.

This makes the situation for the Chicago Bears fairly clear. His contract will enter its final season going into 2020. He will be 26-years old and squarely in his prime. The smart decision from the perspective of GM Ryan Pace would be to heat up negotiations for a contract extension. As bad as the Bears offense has been (30th in the NFL), imagine how it might look without Robinson on the field.

The question that people aren’t considering though is this. Does Robinson actually want to stay in Chicago? Given their quarterback problems and the disappointment of this season, some guys would be anxious to get back on the market and go somewhere else. Is Robinson feeling that way? Not necessarily. By the sound of recent comments, he’s more than open to his side and the Bears talking an extension.

“After going through the whole (free-agency) process before, there are a lot of different logistics that go along with it on both sides,” Robinson said. “My focus is just to finish the season strong and I am sure at some point in time whether it’s my agent starting it or them, it will be talked about. There is a good amount of time.

“So many different scenarios can play out. The time will come.”

Allen Robinson has bought into the Bears culture

One thing that Robinson has proven himself to be is a tireless worker. The reason he’s become so good is a steady, dedicated approach. Guys like that with his level of talent aren’t easy to find. They should be kept at all costs. After what happened with Alshon Jeffery back in 2017, one can understand Bears fans being a little nervous about another receiver forcing his way out of Chicago because the team is struggling to find solutions under center.

It doesn’t appear Robinson is that kind of guy. While he did sign for a lot of money last year, he also came to Chicago because he bought into head coach Matt Nagy and the culture he was building. One that has kept the Bears afloat despite so many issues this season. Robinson seems willing to see this thing through and get the team to where they felt they should be already and that’s in the heart of the Super Bowl chase.
