Mitch Trubisky endured one of the worst nights of his NFL career on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Not only was he again ineffective on offense, managing just seven points and 190 passing yards. He also saw himself get benched late in the 4th quarter despite only trailing by 10. The team soon revealed he was dealing with an injured hip and had been pulled due to his growing ineffectiveness because of that. Matt Nagy revealed on Monday that it was, in fact, a hip pointer suffered on a sack in the first half courtesy of a knee from Rams defender Michael Brockers. Eddie Jackson knows that feeling.
Some people are questioning how bad the injury could’ve been considering Trubisky suffered it in the 2nd quarter and kept playing. The Bears safety though made it clear to McNeil & Parkins on 670 The Score that people don’t realize the kind of pain the quarterback was probably in. Not only did he have to deal with a constant knifing sensation, but also decreased range of motion. Given the importance of the hips in throwing a football for a quarterback, this would explain why Trubisky became less effective late in the contest.
Eddie Jackson will never doubt Trubisky’s heart
Jackson is a well-established supporter of Trubisky. He has never wavered from that throughout all the struggles of this season. He believes the quarterback has the heart and will to fight through anything if given a chance. He’s got the toughness and leadership to go along with it. Heart is one thing Trubisky does not lack. Everybody agrees with that much about him. Nagy himself stated the quarterback begged to stay in the game when informed he was going to be pulled.
The bottom line is this situation, bungled as it may have been, hasn’t changed anything. Trubisky remains the starter for the Bears the rest of this year. Beyond that? It certainly looks like he won’t be alone on the depth chart for much longer. Chicago figures to at least bring in competition, if not an outright replacement in 2020.
