Khalil Mack proved he was worth every bit of that trade and new contract the Chicago Bears forked out this past offseason. Despite missing two games and playing another two on a bad ankle, he still managed 12.5 sacks on the season. That’s the best mark a Bears pass rusher has had since Richard Dent was still on the team.
While it was his play on the field that did most of the talking, nobody can say that Mack was the silent type. He wasn’t afraid to do a little jabbering with the opponent from time to time. That might explain why the 27-year old had one of the best mic’d up moments for a defensive player this season according to NFL.com.
It took place during the Bears’ first win of the season when they knocked off the Seattle Seahawks 24-17 at Soldier Field. Mack delivered a hard tackle to rookie running back Rashaad Penny. First he decided to serenade him with a little rendition of “I Want Your Love” by Chic. Then he checked in to make sure Penny was still feeling it.
For a guy who’s known for being rather laid back and quiet in interviews, Mack doesn’t shy away from gabbing on the field. It’s little wonder he’s so respected as a leader. The guy isn’t afraid to let his voice be heard or to let the opponents know he’s there. Here’s hoping there will be plenty more mic’d up moments in the future. They all figure to be just as entertaining, if not more so.
