Everybody already knew that Allen Robinson could do ridiculous things as a pass catcher at times. He proved that a few years back in Jacksonville. Even so, it didn’t feel like he’s had his true highlight moment yet with the Chicago Bears. Sure enough he waited for one of the worst weather days of the season to make the play not just of the season for Chicago, but for any wide receiver in the NFL.
It’s fitting that sort of helmet catch came against the New York Giants, famous for the David Tyree catch years ago in the Super Bowl. Not only was it a great play by Robinson, he also did it while clearly getting interfered with by the Giants corner B.W. Webb. His ability to concentrate on getting his feet down afterwards only added to the spectacle.
It would prove to be a big play too. A few minutes later Akiem Hicks, yes Akiem Hicks scored on a one-yard touchdown run to put the Bears ahead 14-7. Things are wacky at MetLife Stadium. It’s not always pretty but there is no doubt it’s been a lot of fun thus far.
The question will be can Robinson continue to deliver because quarterback Chase Daniel has been struggling all day long. He already has two interceptions in the game and has looked out of sorts for long stretches. Only the play of Robinson and Jordan Howard has kept things on track. Not to mention the ridiculous play of the defense as they dominate.
