WATCH: Mitch Trubisky Shuts Up the Haters With Historic 5-TD First Half

-

Mitch Trubisky has been hearing it from the critics for weeks and months. While other young quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson played well, he was struggling to keep up in what has been a frustrating Chicago Bears offense. Through the first three games, he had just two touchdown passes to three interceptions. Many were already calling him a bust. Others even pushed for Chase Daniels to replace him.

At some point, a man can only take so much. He’ll either break down or break out. It would seem the tenacious former Mr. Ohio Football had heard enough and took his frustrations out on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In just one half of football, Trubisky had a historic performance going 14-of-18, 289 yards, and 5 touchdown passes.

You read that correctly. FIVE. A Bears quarterback hasn’t thrown that many in a game since way back in the 1940s. To think Trubisky needed less than 30 minutes of football to do it. Nobody saw it coming and fans at Soldier Field had no idea what to do with themselves.

The Bears finished the half up 38-3 in what was easily the single-most sustained effort of devastation this city has seen in years. To think it was a quarterback leading that charge is something utterly unique and a great sign for the future. There’s still questions left for Trubisky to answer but this is a giant step in the right direction. People will want to see if it acts as his launching point. One can only hope.
