VIDEO: Javon Wims Ejected After Throwing 2 Punches At Saints Defender

Javon Wims doesn’t exactly have a lot of leeway for making mistakes with the Chicago Bears. His spot on the roster was already tenuous given his lack of action on offense. Odds are his highlight reel moment in the afternoon game against the New Orleans Saints isn’t going to do him any favors looking towards next week.

The wide receiver was caught on camera throwing not one but two punches at Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Both of them looking like blatant cheap shots. Unsurprisingly, Wims was ejected from the game. Yet that was just one part of a brutal 3rd quarter for the Bears offense that included a Nick Foles interception just moments later.

Forget a fine and suspension.

It’s possible Wims could find himself out of a job after something like this. The Bears pride themselves on a strong team culture that is built around class and sportsmanship. This doesn’t seem like the type of stuff they’re going to let slide. Especially given how little the receiver has contributed to the bottom line so far this season.

Javon Wims had no excuse for the move

It’s possible Wims might’ve been sticking up for Anthony Miller. Shortly before the incident, Gardner-Johnson was seen sticking his finger into Miller’s facemask near his eye. Maybe Wims didn’t care for that and decided he was going to retaliate. While admirable he was defending his teammate, his loss of composure ultimately did nothing for the team.

All it did was leave the Bears short-handed with just three receivers for the rest of the game. Not a smart move. Odds are if he doesn’t lose his job, he’s definitely going to lose playing time. Chicago hasn’t played former 4th round pick Riley Ridley thus far this season, making his inactive for every game.

This could be the decisive moment that finally gets him into the lineup. He reportedly had a strong training camp but lost snaps to Wims who also played well. Wims had the advantage of being a good blocker and having use on special teams. Not even that is likely to save him after this debacle.
