Chicago Bears Met Two More Possible 2nd Round Options

-

If one position group has begun to stand out lately as a heavy focus for the Chicago Bears in the upcoming draft? That’s cornerbacks. Just last week they added Mississippi State’s Cameron Dantzler to their growing list of meetings. Now Justin Melo of The Draft Wire revealed two more have joined him. They are Kristian Fulton of LSU and Javaris Davis of Auburn.

That makes six corners the Bears are known to have met with dating back to the Senior Bowl. One can guess the list is substantially bigger than that. It’s apparent that they have designs on adding another body to their secondary, not content with the state of things. Will it be in the 2nd round? A good number of those they’ve met are good enough to go that high.

Chicago Bears know their defense is their strength

Some would argue the Bears should save their 2nd rounders for the offense, which is fair. However, the team also understands this team is driven by the defense. They already added to their pass rush with Robert Quinn in free agency. The best way to maximize that would be finding another cover corner to play across from Kyle Fuller.

Joe Marino of The Draft Network compared Fulton to A.J. Bouye.

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

“A highly-regarded high school recruit, It took some time for Fulton to see the field but he was worth the wait. Fulton was dominant in 2018 and even better as a senior. Everything he does is so natural and he’s always comfortable in every situation. Playing a challenging position like cornerback often leads to panicky moments but Fulton is cool as a cucumber. Fulton has smooth feet, fluid hips, refined technique, tremendous awareness and the physicality needed to become a shutdown No. 1 corner in the NFL.”

Davis? He’ll remind Bears fans of Tim Jenning. Despite being just 5’8, he’s a freak athlete with 4.39 speed, strong ball skills and knowledge of how to play his position both inside and outside. Most will see him as a slot guy but his upside is better than that.

Either would make the Bears secondary better and deeper.
