Chicago Bears QB Rumors Just Officially Jumped the Shark

-

This time of year is when the rumors can often get more than a little out of control for the NFL. Just look at what’s happening with Tom Brady for an idea. Obviously the biggest topic of discussion for the Chicago Bears is what they have planned at quarterback. Several names have gotten connected to them from Andy Dalton to Case Keenum, Nick Foles, and even Derek Carr. The rumors are many. It’s hard to know who to trust.

The fact is GM Ryan Pace is probably loving this. Few in the league are better at keeping a tight ship in regards to leaks about offseason intentions. His trades for Trubisky and Khalil Mack being particular masterstrokes. Yet that hasn’t stopped some people from proclaiming they know exactly who he plans to pursue. That black market dealing just reached a fever pitch.

@LeroyInsider, who is affiliated with Barstool Sports and Pro Football Talk declared that the Bears are planning to have dinner with longtime New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Yes, really. That is the level we have reached.

Chicago Bears aren’t getting Manning, so please stop

There is so much wrong with that “insider” revelation. For starters, Manning is still technically under contract. So the Bears meeting with him would be tampering under the NFL rules and would result in a severe penalty. That doesn’t seem like something they’d do given the limited resources they have already.

In regards to Manning himself, all signs point to him eventually retiring. He’s approaching his 40th birthday and hasn’t shown any interest in playing for a team other than the Giants. Last but not least, Leroy doesn’t exactly have the strongest sources. This is the same person who declare Jalen Ramsey would be traded to Kansas City and Matt Rhule would become the head coach in New York just in the past year.

This guy may have lots of followers but he has zero credibility. The Bears may have explored a Manning trade last year during the season, but that was because Trubisky wasn’t healthy and struggled upon his return. Having a steady veteran under center at that time like Manning would’ve made sense. Now? The situation has changed. They have several better options than the aging former star. This report makes no sense and is bogus.

Please move along.
