Mitch Trubisky is a good kid. He’s likable, he works hard, and he embraces the job of being a leader in the locker room. These are all good qualities to have in the NFL. Unfortunately, they haven’t been enough to make him an effective quarterback. After his solid 2018 season, it would appear either defenses have caught up to him or the guy has simply lost his mojo. It’s clear Trubisky isn’t nearly as effective throwing the football as he was last year.
Through six games he has just 1,094 passing yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. This is good for an 81.4 passer rating. If that holds it would be a 14-point drop from the year before. Fans have long since begun to turn on him. There shouldn’t be any more excuses. It’s his third year in the league. His second in Matt Nagy’s offense. He should be getting better, not worse. The thing is? The fans and media aren’t the only ones who know this too.
According to Adam Jahns of The Athletic, the Bears wide receiving corps has begun to grow frustrated with the quarterback too.
Mitch Trubisky isn’t taking advantage of his chances
It’s not a big surprise the receivers are feeling this way. Trubisky, more than any quarterback in the league, has a reputation for missing wide open receivers at a prodigious rate. He’s leaving so many big plays out on the field and making the receivers less effective than they should be. They haven’t voiced their displeasure publicly yet, to their credit. However, there’s only so much they can take before the frustration starts to boil over.

The Bears aren’t completely stupid. They recognize the problem like everybody else. What can they do about it though? Their only other option is Chase Daniel and he’s even worse. The trade deadline is one possibility but that could prove too expensive. Especially with the limited number of draft choices the Bears have their disposal in 2020. The best course of action, however unpalatable, is to ride the rest of the year out with Trubisky and then look to make a change in the spring.
Then again, if the misfires continue a revolt could be inevitable.
