The NBA has worked for weeks on devising a plan to resume their 2019-2020 season after a work stoppage due to the coronavirus. At last, Commissioner Adam Silver and the others in power found their way forward. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the plan is for 22 teams to be invited down to Orlando, Florida. Eight regular-season (betamo.com) games will then be played to decide playoff seeding before moving forward into the postseason. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on opinion), the Chicago Bulls are not going to be involved.

They hold one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference and didn’t qualify among the eight teams to gain entry to this tournament format; thus, their season is all but officially over once the format is ratified. While it puts a stamp on another disappointing season, it does have a silver lining. It allows VP Arturas Karnisovas to finally make a decision on what to do with Jim Boylen.

Since there are no more games to be played, the odds don’t favor the head coach returning next year.

Chicago Bulls are now free to get a head start on offseason

If anything, this is good news for the Bulls. They and seven other teams will get a head start on the offseason while others will waste their time playing out a string in which they have no hope of actually winning. Karnisovas will decide what to do with Boylen and then be free to start his plan for overhauling the roster. The Bulls will be part of the anticipated draft lottery. So hopefully they can get a better position than the 7th they’ve been stuck at the past few years.

In terms of who could replace Boylen? The most popular names to watch include Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin and former Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson. Both have strong reputations for player development. Something Karnisovas is looking for.
