Can The Bills Finally Sweep The Patriots? – MNF Best Bets

-

What an absolutely insane week in the NFL that featured several critical games that set us up for an even more incredible Week 17. Next week will feature season-defining matchups and must-win situations that will have each of us at the end of our seats, and our wallets. But before we get there, we have one more game to play in Week 16, and it’s essentially a revenge game for years of suffrage. For Buffalo, there was a celebration last week like no other when the Bills clinched their first AFC East crown since 1995 after blowing out the Denver Broncos 48-19. Buffalo has the league’s second-ranked passing attack, shredding opposing secondaries behind the dynamic combination of QB Josh Allen and WR Stefon Diggs. Allen hit the 4,000 passing yard mark last week, while Diggs leads the NFL with 111 receptions. They may have to do a lot less passing this week though, as they take on a Patriot’s defense that owns the sixth-best pass defense in the league. Allen will likely have to use his legs a bunch, as New England is subsequently just as bad against the run. The starting QBs in the game are two of the most prolific duel-threats of the past decade at the position. Allen has eight rushing TDs while Cam Newton has the most at the position in the NFL with 11. New England hasn’t had much success offensively besides that though, and last week’s 22-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins officially eliminated them from the playoffs for the first time since 2008. DraftKings wants you to take advantage of this matchup by offering you a great deal on this game and more.

Monday Night Football Best Bets

Buffalo Bills (11-3) at New England Patriots (6-8)

Spread: BUF -7, NE +7

I know it’s a disgusting pick, but I like the Patriots getting the 7. New England has been sticky all year long, and they rarely get blown out. At home in New England, I just don’t see a picture where they get destroyed. The Patriots are a team that likes to run the football, which leads to games that time drags on and scoring is tougher to come by. In the first matchup between these two teams, New England had a chance to pull off the upset late in the game, but Newton fumbled on a scramble play in the red zone which Buffalo recovered. Bill Belichick usually has some sort of plan in games that almost never result in large leads for the opponent. In fact, New England has covered in four of their last five games as underdogs, so they are no strangers to being counted out this year and still managing to cover. That’s what the great teams do right?

Official Play: NE +7

Total: 46

This number seems actually right on to me. I think it will be a slightly below-average NFL scoring game that will feature a ton of running the football. The Bills haven’t done that all season long, but when they did have success, it was against the Pats earlier this year. If Buffalo wants to throw the ball, New England is most susceptible over the middle of the field, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see their TEs get into the action here. Expect to see a lot of running by the two QBs, as they have been very dangerous all year on the ground and these are two of the worst rushing defenses in the league. If I had to have a lean on the total here, I would lean under because of the number of times I think the two teams run the football.

Lean: Under 46

Player Props:

Cam Newton Anytime TD – Cam has 11 rushing TDs this season, and he’ll be looking for number 12 against this Bills poor rushing D. Which also leads us to…

Damien Harris Anytime TD – Buffalo has been atrocious against the run all season long, and the only thing that scares me here is him splitting carries with Sony Michel. But NE said that Harris remains their starter, so we’re rolling with him.

Josh Allen Anytime TD – Just like Cam, Allen has been lethal with his feet this season. NE ranks sixth-worst against the run and Allen will probably have his number called around the goal line.

Stefon Diggs Anytime TD – I know this entire article has been based on how these teams will run the ball. And they will. But Diggs always will get his chances, and I think he comes down with one over the declining Stephon Gilmore.

Dawson Knox OVER Receiving Yds – Remember how I said that NE is most vulnerable down the middle of the field? That’s where Knox comes in. He’s come on a lot recently, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him snag some catches or a TD here.
