Aaron Rodgers Teams Up With Bryson DeChambeau In “The Match”

-

Last year’s edition of “The Match” featured Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady against Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning, and we get another treat this year for some mindless golf entertainment. Mickelson and Brady return, but this time they get to face Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and 2020 U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau as announced on Wednesday. Now, we would obviously have rather had Brooks Koepka take on DeChambeau due to their recent feud, but we will take what we can get. This should be a great match, and the latest odds down at the sportsbook think it will be as well, as the odds opened up in a tight race.

Rodgers/DeChambeau Open As Favorites

Not surprisingly, Team Rodgers and DeChambeau opened as slight favorites with -160 odds to win at DraftKings Sportsbook. This is likely because Rodgers is paired up with the younger star golfer who can hit it as far as Happy Gilmore, whereas Brady is with the older legend who most think is pretty much done, despite his PGA Championship win last week. Team Brady and Mickelson opened up with +140 odds as the underdogs at DraftKings, but interestingly, opened as -130 favorites at Station Casino in Las Vegas. Rodgers and DeChambeau were listed as +110 underdogs. This tells you just how close this match should be, as sportsbooks don’t even agree with who should be listed as the favorites to win.

Mickelson is coming off his historic win at the PGA Championship, becoming the oldest golfer ever to win a major championship. His partner is coming off his seventh Super Bowl win this past February, which is ridiculous when you think about it. Meanwhile, DeChambeau is the fourth-ranked golfer in the world and Rodgers just won the 2020 NFL MVP award. Oh, and he hosted “Jeopardy!” as part of the show’s search for a new host after Alex Trebek passed away.

War of the Memes

Brady has never really cared what people think about him or his game and has been the underdog many times in his storied career. However, he absolutely loves to troll people on social media when they count him out. After the announcement of “The Match”, Brady got right on Twitter to spew heat at his opponents with some pretty hilarious memes:

This is what we call the good stuff. I mean c’mon, Tom Brady is making and posting a bunch of memes on all of his social media platforms as literally the most decorated NFL player of all time. Truly an amazing age we live in today. However, the war did not stop here with Brady. 50-year-old Phil Mickelson chimed in about his anticipation for The Match and took the time to burn Rodgers after the QB posted a meme of his own:

Bryson Obliterates Brady

This was the last meme and the final kill shot, taken by DeChambeau:

DeflateGate will never end for Brady. The Match will take place July 6 at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana. That is a beautiful place with many scenic views, but we may not be able to get the image of Phil Mickelson as Jabba The Hutt out of our heads anytime soon. Who do you think will come out on top? Get to the Sportsbook and make your wagers, then sit back and enjoy the carnage that is to come.
